This started out as a list of foods I’ve eaten in Bangkok, but I didn’t want to show off.

A quick check-in: I’m having a great time in Bangkok, and medically everything is working out fine. I get to experience world class healthcare and then eat amazing and diverse food with volunteers from Mongolia to Kyrgyzstan.

Bangkok is very much not China, and I had no idea how badly I needed that. Nobody yells or pushes, I’ve been going to yoga, using western toilets, and gawking at the overwhelming number of foreigners. This westernness reminds me how much I don’t see in China: prostutution and homlessness are rampant in Bangkok, but carefully pushed under the rug in China.

The last few weeks have given me a lot to think about, and I’ll hopefully write more when I’m not paying for my internet by the minute. Until then, I’ll be sweating in the tropical heat, eating avocado sandwiches and breakfast mango and waffles. (Seriously, if you’re passing through, the waffles they sell at the metro stations are to die for.)
